Branch History
Library service came to Prosser in 1910, when
the now-demolished Carnegie Library was built. In 1972, the present
library was built to serve the Prosser community. Since 1949, when the
Mid-Columbia Library was formed, the area surrounding Prosser received its
library service from the bookmobile that traveled amongst the farms in west
Benton County. In 1990, Mid-Columbia Library established a branch in an
old bookmobile to serve the non-city residents surrounding Prosser and later
moved to a storefront on 6th Street. In January 2001, the City of Prosser
and the Mid-Columbia Library joined forces to offer one library to serve the
city and the county residents more effectively. Service has continued to
improve and the library is busier than it has ever been.
